I have been using Instagram a lot lately. When I 1st installed the app in my iPhone4, I set my photo sharing to private, thinking that I will only post the pictures in my facebook... but after reading about the Instagram's community, I have decided to share my pictures with the community and oh my! It is quite an active and huge one though, with at least tens of thousands of people in there. I enjoy it a lot, commenting and appreciating other's works plus making new friends too! There are all sorts of people and photography themes in there, so far the only one I have not seen is underwater photography.

I have been snapping quite a lot eversince I got my iPhone4... so I am going to share with you guys what I took. From now, about every now and then, I will update here with new pictures. Enjoy! :)

My 1st Hebe tee design!

The final product!

Hebe was here in Singapore for 2 sessions of concert on the 15th and an autograph session on the 16th of January. I attended the autograph session but before that, I thought why not wear something different yet not too loud to attend the event? So I came up with the idea of cropping out her picture with the letters of her english name... and that is how the design was born.

I made it quite subtle that if you didn't take a closer look, you will thought that it is some average design at the front of the tee but if you take a closer look, you will see that it is actually a picture of Hebe cropped inside her own english name.
This picture is actually a fashion shot of Hebe taken from a fashion magazine. I chose it simply because it looks 'fashion' plus the color is just perfect for a noir-sepia tone to be incorporated with either a black or white tee. The font was carefully chosen so that her eyes and mouth are not cropped out.

Pre-production preview visuals

Initially I have a hard time deciding to print on a black tee or a white tee. Although the design will stand out more on a black tee but in the end I go ahead with the white tee, simply because the overall visual felt more 'fashion'(again) on a white tee.
* I have friends and Hebe fans who wanted the tee... but I don't think I will be printing it for sale. ;p

I showed Hebe the tee at the autograph session, she was pretty surprised and used a sweet innocent voice(I can sense much gratitude in it) to say 'thank you' to me. So naturally, I was surprised by her reaction too... or should I say 'mesmerized' at the same time. Hehe... I was being mesmerized so much that I mistakenly shake her left hand with my right hand... lolx (Her left hand was facing down, not sideway... and my right hand was facing up, so it looked like her left hand was placed on top of my right hand) XD... Besides that, I have also forgotten to ask her if she can sign on my tee! Really regret that I didn't ask... I am pretty sure that this will be the 1st ever tee she ever signed on if she did... and I would have had the tee framed up, for being the one and only tee design available in this world with her signature on it.

So... not a bad birthday I had afterall. But sigh... how come I have a feeling that I am becoming more and more like a fan... zzz

Confession #02 - An Ocean Lover

I love to swim since I was a kid and I always asked my parents to bring me to the swimming pool during the weekends. I just love the feeling of moving in the water, like I can move in any direction I want. Unlike walking on ground, we can only move on a horizontal plane but swimming is different. Well, if I can fly perhaps I will love it more than swimming. (laughs)

I remember there was once when my family brought me on a tour to the Maldives, oh boy... how I love the ocean there, the clear water, the coral reefs etc made me so fascinated that I just have to swim every single day when we were there. That trip is the reason why I became an oceanologist. Well, it is not like I dislike land animals though, there is a particular animal that I like, which is the snake. I like their smooth shiny scales and the way they move. I remember when I was a kid, I once asked my teacher this question “Why do snakes swim on the ground, teacher? They should be swimming in the sea” haha... how ignorant I was, a kid is a kid ya. Perhaps it is because how they move, made me likes them.

Since young, I have a cheerful nature and a positive attitude. I have never fail to keep trying after failures and I always look on the bright side of things. Although I might be cheerful most of the time but I often feels sad when I get to know that the sea animals are being hunted and killed, like the sharks are hunted for their fins etc. I wish I have the authority or the power to stop all these cruel acts. Ya, I know it is for consumption or even business but... but it is just not right to do such things... it is just cruel. With that said, now I am not even sure if breeding chickens, ducks or pigs etc for human consumption is a right thing or not... sigh. Oh well... When I am upset by things like that, it is my friends and colleagues who are the ones cheering me up instead.

Talking about colleagues, they always say I am the prettiest girl in the company, and they even submitted an application to a model search without my knowledge! They encourage me to try and to get more exposure... well, I went for the fun of it and although I did not win, it was a nice experience. I was contacted soon after by LUSH magazine to be their in-house model. I was thinking of rejecting the offer since I went to the model search competition for the fun of it and moreover I like my present job as an oceanologist, so I told them that I already have a fulltime job but to my surprise, they are willing to have me on a freelance basis if I can’t be their fulltime in-house model. Well, it doesn’t hurt to try new stuffs, furthermore my family, friends and colleagues are all very encouraging, saying that they will soon see me in the catwalk on tv. (laughs) So there I go, modeling for LUSH magazine. My latest job is a series of magazine-ad promoting a new cyber-chic fashion: the Headphone Bra. Hmm... interesting piece of fashion, isn’t it?

Oh ya! The model search competition is also the place where I first met my fiance. He is a businessman, his company is doing some sponsorship thingy for the model search competition at that time. I seldom ask about his work, so I don’t really know the details. I only know that he is a nice guy, been very good and nice to me... that is all I need to know =) Besides being nice, he is also quite charimatic and that made him the target of many other girls. Others often asked if I am worried that he might leave me for someone else, I always reply that he has a choice of whom he wants to be with, and if he chose to be with someone else, I will respect his decision but if he is with another girl while being in a relationship with me, then of course I won’t accept that. I will be very sad and I don’t know what I will do.
We have been together for quite a while now and plan to get married soon, so I hope nothing goes wrong and happiness will be with me all the way.

LUSH magazine cover featuring Cleo wearing the all-new fashion gadget: the Headphone Bra! lol... The inspiration came after I was searching for a song in Youtube, and it happened that the picture being used is a girl covering her breasts with a headphone. Anyway, I was thinking of doing a magazine cover for her, so this discovery came at the right time and sparked it all.

I should be designing a few more Headphone Bra, will have her wearing them as in pages of the magazine or poster etc... so keep it a lookout ya!
Hmm.. perhaps I should also add and show an earphone wire connection to the Bra, as if it can really play MP3! LOL...

Her colleagues and friends often enjoy her company due to her positive attitude & cheerful nature, which are also the reasons that attracted a lot of suitors. Presently engaged to her businessman boyfriend.

Confession #01 - To Seek & Rid

I am the best in the force, second to none... but the reason why I joined the force is neither because the pay is decent nor my dad is a good officer showing good example that influenced me. Mine is quite negative... so here is my story.

I was born in a happy family... or that was what it used to be.

My dad was an ordinary factory worker, so is my mum. They met, fell in love, got married and had me not long after.

Everything was normal and good... until an accident at the factory caused my dad to lose his right hand. Without it, he is unable to continue working in the job he is specialized in and has no choice but to leave the factory. He was jobless for a few months and soon things got worse when his ego kicks in. Not wanting to be provided by my mum nor wanting to accept jobs for the handicaps, he soon revert to his gambling-addict-self, which is whom he was, before meeting my mum. He then went on to gamble day & night, even shouted and get rough with mum when she tried to stop him. I sometimes get hurt too when I tried to help & defend my mum but was pushed away by him. To make things even more worse, he was in debt and the loan sharks came knocking on our door, terrorizing us now and then. I was in elementary school at that time... can you imagine the fear I had? That is also the time when I start to develop hatred for gamblers... petty gamblers.
Unable to see the light of hope, my mum decided that it is enough, and soon they got divorced. The happy family that I once have... was no more.

My mum brought me up all by herself, working overtime late into the night. Sometimes when I do not have much homework to do, I would visit her at the factory and brought her supper, we would then go home together. I usually didn’t get to enjoy the luxury most of my friends did... you know... cool toys & gadgets, gaming consoles etc. Sometimes my friends would invite me to go to their houses and play with those stuffs, so it wasn’t that bad after all. Well, although life was a bit tough but still, it was a happy one.
Do I envy or get jealous that my friends had those stuffs and I didn’t? No, not at all. I rarely envy others when it comes to material possession.

Talking about schooI life... I am quite the athlete, excelling in most track & field events and I have interest in most sports that allow me to push my physical skills to a new height. Then come 1 day while searching for jobs after graduation from University, I was thinking ‘why not get enlisted into the (police)force, since I have great physical skills?’... but deep in my heart I know that what I experienced as a child, contributed as part of the reason for joining the force... and so I sent in my application, passed the test and was enlisted.

In the force, I raised fast through the ranks and soon enough I was recommended by my superiors to join the local SWAT team. I passed the tests with ease and was accepted into the team. I continue to excel and soon enough, I was a high ranking officer but I refuse to rot behind the desk and most often will join my SWAT team in missions. Needless to say, I am also able to provide a better life for my mum too. Then finally the day came when I received a letter from SARS, saying that I am picked to join them. I was quite surprised when I received the letter... from the special force of the special forces! Could you believe that? SARS, the ultimate special force with it’s members being handpicked throughout the world. There is absolutely no recruitment or application for joining SARS... it is defintiely the elite of the elites. I am so honoured that I accepted the invitation and replied immediately.

Days at SARS are definitely tougher than that of SWAT’s or the force’s. I am seldom home nowadays because missions of SARS are worldwide, it requires me to be in this country for today and then in another country by tomorrow, for example. (So because of this, I miss my mum a lot... plus I also regret that now I have no more chance of busting gambling dens and arrest that petty gambler myself!)
After a few months in SARS, I raised quickly to the position of a section leader... and that is also about time when the role of SARS took a steep turn. We soon received a weird mission of apprehending an extremely dangerous individual, which we thought that it should be a piece of cake but we were gravely wrong. When we arrived at the mission destination, we found and get to see things that we have not seen before; corpses with bite-marks that of a vampire, just that these marks are much larger and they are found not only on the necks but some bite-marks are on various parts of the bodies... and we thought vampires are only fictional? Worse, we also found corpses that were sliced in two, some get their limbs sliced off and some get decapitated. The slices are very clean-cut, similar to that of a katana’s... so now we have a vampire samurai? We also found numerous circular marks everywhere on the scene, which look as if they were being hit by a huge hammer... but the targeted individual could not be found in the proximity though.
The next few missions are exactly the same, the same sight of the scenes and the same individual we are hunting. These sounds like a case for the X-files more than mission for SARS... and we were told that we will not have other missions if we could not locate and apprehend this mysterious individual... I have a bad feeling about this.

Anyway, although it sounds like it is getting more mysterious and dangerous by the day but it is also getting more interesting. At least that is how I feel about this... and I’m getting real curious about this mysterious individual that we are hunting. Did he/she caused all these? If so, how did he/she do it? Hmm...

The logo of Blades & Barrels

The final version of the logo: Blades & Barrels. This title & logo is to replace LEGNA:Ling, which I felt that it is not meaningful enough. Actually I have both titles in my mind at that time, but chose to use 'LEGNA:Ling' instead.

The name 'LEGNA' is an anagram and also the name of the protagonist in the overall story. 'Ling' is the pronunciation of the word 'Zero' in mandarin, which is also the name of the protagonist of this chapter of the story. I used Ling in the title to show that it is a prequel... 0 comes before 1... get it? Later I felt that this title sounds weird and has no impact, hence I finally decided to drop it and use 'Blades & Barrels'. Ok now, so much for the back history of LEGNA:Ling, let's talk about this new title & logo, shall we?

This title was inspired by the Japanese history, particularly the part on Commodore Matthew Perry and his Black ships of the United States Navy forcing the opening of Japan to the outside world, on March 31st, 1854. I have always imagined that event to be set in a futuristic alternate timeline where the United States Navy will be all mechanized, robots with guns etc... and the Japanese will be using the deadly sword energy with their spells & magic. It will certainly be a cool anime if its ever been made into one XD. So with those thoughts, the name 'Blades & Barrels' came into mind... hmm, this title also sounds 'anime-ish' ya?

'Blades' symbolized the main weaponry of the past and 'Barrels' symbolized the main weaponry of the present & future. So you see? 'Blades & Barrels' can be used to symbolize any contrasting stuffs, for example 'science vs spells & magic', 'good vs evil' or 'rich vs poor' etc. There are so many such ideas that can be used in the story, that is why I chose to use this title in the end.

For those who are wondering if you have seen the circular diagram behind... no, you are not wrong. It is the same one from LEGNA:Ling but I have modified it, so that it is now not as plain and boring like before.

Oh ya! The story and everything from LEGNA:Ling will remain, that includes the character 'Ling' but I will modify her costume later.

S.A.R.S: design sheet

1st character design from Blades & Barrels, done in a nu cel-shaded style. An elite special operation tactical unit named S.A.R.S (Special Assault ReconnaiSsance).

SARS is also the name of the deadly virus that once caused a near pandemic between the months of November 2002 and July 2003, infected thousands and killed hundreds. I chose this name for the unit because I want them to be like the deadly virus that strikes fear in the hearts of criminals, just like the real virus did to the public.

Here is the passage at the bottom of the page:
SARS is originally an elite special operation tactical unit operating independently away from the army and the police forces. However, after the discovery of the Deliriums and the Raptures’ activities, their role has become more of a “search & stall” unit for the Messiah Knights, which sometimes caused conflicts between members of the 2 units.
Members of SARS are selected from the very best and they are the elites among the armed forces. They are trained to perform high-risk operations that falls outside the abilities of the regular armed forces. They are also specialized in various weapons & equipments although their recent role requires them to be armed only with the basic weaponry.

Cyborg Queen: Final Illustration

The Cyborg Queen, the one and only supreme ruler of the cyborg race.

The design of this character is heavily influenced by Queen Amidala from Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace. Since she is the queen, so my design will focus more on the elegancy
rather than that of a barbaric warrior. I also want her to be more human-like in appearance.

The final design is a mixed of oriental & western’s royal features. She will have a head-dress which resembles those wore by the oriental empresses, a body suit which resembles the western corset as well as a skirt of the old English noble to go with it. The overall appearance will remain futuristic with a visor on the head-dress.

A Queen must have her own ride. I do not want it to be a completely futuristic looking vehicle, since her appearance is not that of a typical cyborg’s. Therefore, I designed her ride as a floating platform with appearance similar to those in ancient mythology etc. A floating platform in the air high above everyone else, and also for her to give command from a safe location away from the frontline.

Changed the original design a bit and did 2 sets of different visors to choose from. The 2 side 'fins' are actually blades(with extensible cables) capable of striking opponents at a distance. Time is running out... gonna spend more time and work faster!

I have decided to join this year's Dominance War IV, partly because I really need inspirations & motivations for my portfolio. The deadline is less than 2 weeks away though...

My entry will be a Cyborg Queen. The supreme one that leads the cyborg races to countless victories and widely feared by all other races.
I always start from the head(unless bald) to set the direction, then slowly work my way to the rest of the body. I wanted a more humane and different approach to her, rather than the conventional look of a borg from the Star Trek series. Hmm... let's see how it goes from here.
I have shrinked my ideas into 4 main ones, which you can see above. I'm still figuring whether I should choose 1 of the 4 or further mix-n-match them...

Hi folks!

LEGNA:Ling has always been a story I wanted to do since many years ago. I hope it can materialised as either a manga or anime someday, so I told myself that I will only do stuffs revolving this story and everything in it(meaning not gonna do fan art etc)... but recently I realised that either my vision or my skills are still not good enough to correctly portray LEGNA:Ling visually, at least in the way I want it to be(or perhaps my artworks are lacking international appeal). I don't wish to ruin this story, so I have decided to K.I.V it.

I have a bad habit.. that is I don't really like to randoming draw stuffs. I rather have a story and then create characters etc from it. :p So within these few days, I have written another story, a quick one... and also one that allows me to experiment my vision & skills more liberally... I hope this can break the chain and wake my potential up. :)

Will post the pictures when they are ready... so till then, break a spine!

Rough silhouette sketches of the mechas in LEGNA:LING.

I will add in the details and improve on the design accordingly when I start working on each of them. The only one with details added is the M19-Phoenix as seen previously. The basic design for each of them are inspired by creatures/things etc around us. Make a guess which is which. :D

By the way, they are not to scale with each other. The Phoenix and the tank are scaled to real-world machines... but as for the others, I will have a human figure beside it to indicate it's scale when I work on them individually, later. More to come ya!

An aged fighter of the RAF, going to be phased out soon.

A quick doodle & rendering which consist of only gray-scale with a bit of color... this is by no means the actual color of the fighter jet.
The M19 Phoenix was born from a mixture concept of a swan, a cobra and the F16 Falcon fighter jet. I believe it is easy to tell which part of the fighter belongs to which concept ya. : )

The penciled version of Ling in casual wear. Seems like I have been inking lesser and lesser nowadays... perhaps it is because I prefer the subtle feel of the pencil strokes more than the ink's. As usual she is having her signature weapon - the razor blade, even in casual wear! :D

Boot's design

Sketches and color reference for Ling's casual wear.

I'm kinda into Junya Watanabe(a Japanese fashion designer) at the moment, so trying out some fashion designing too... but only visually. lol
I have always been interested in fashion designing but of course not to the extent of producing it in real life, as I am not a fashion designer. So ya... putting my ideas in digital format or on paper are the only things I can do for my level of fashion designing. :)

I have a thing for gradient when it comes to clothing, and because her Phantom Suit has a red gradient on the chest area, that is why I designed her casual wear to have red gradients too.
The low-rise straight pants showing off the bikini is a Japanese fashion trend, but I'm not sure if it is still in trend now.
The design of the boots is modified from Junya Watanabe's. Mine is the high heel version, with the boots' collar being able to flip up & clipped to become high-cut boots. I designed it this way so that it is versatile enough to match any dressing. :)

Finally finished! The color version of Ling's portrait or bust, as some might prefer to call it.

Took quite a while designing the 7 symbols on the logo. They may appear not proportionally placed, because it has been rotated so that a specific symbol is now at the 12 o'clock position. Yes, its placement is related to Ling but I won't spoil it just yet. The symbol which is now in between the 1-2 o'clock position, is the symbol originally at the 12 o'clock position. I will rotate them and place a certain symbol at the 12 o'clock position when the character is related or belong to that symbol.
So... are you wondering what exactly are those symbols? Hehehe Stay tuned then... ermm... but they won't be revealed that soon, as I have quite a lot of other artworks to be done.

Anyway, just a bit of spoiler... LEGNA: Ling will only involved 2 of the 7 symbols.

An action pose of Ling throwing razor blades from the blades' magazines on her thighs. I'm practicing on tonal perception hence used cel-shading.
This piece is supposed to be a collaboration with my friend Sandara. I draw the lineart and she colors it but she is a very busy person, so hopefully she will get it done one day. I believe a lot of people will love to see her version of my character.

Gonna do a few more pieces of Ling before moving to other characters. I'm also gonna do a write up on her ability soon.

After 3 years, the 2nd model in the series is finally here! Why so long?... some might asked. Well, I have more or less lost interest in Gundam modeling because of varies reasons. 1 of the reason is because I wanted to create or scratch-build my own line of mechas in conjunction with my portfolio.
The reason I decided to model again is because one day, I chanced upon the news that this year's BAKUC(Bandai Action Kit Universal Cup) will be held in conjunction with the Anime Festival Asia 08. I thought it is quite cool since AFA'08 is a big event, so I decided to give it a try... plus at the same time, showcasing my Monument series to a wider audience.

I was kind of late to know this news, hence it was quite a rush for me to complete this monument. I was left with about 2-3 weeks, then worked on & off on it... and almost 24 hours during the last 2 days. lol... If I know the news early & start early, I should be able to modify it more to make it a better looking monument... sigh. -_-

I have been wanting to do Destiny as the 2nd in the series, ever since I completed Freedom... why? because there is a link between these 2 MS. Let me explain the idea & concept behind this Destiny, and you shall understand it's presentation. It is quite simple though. :D

Shinn Asuka is the pilot of the Destiny Gundam, as well as the emo protagonist of the anime. He has a grunge against Freedom Gundam because he thought Freedom(together with Calamity Gundam) caused the death of his family... hence 1 side of the base are Freedom's arms. Later in the series, he became dilemmatic and confused of his own actions, unable to release the pain in his soul... hence the other side of the base are Destiny's arms.
Shinn Asuka is tormented by both himself and the Freedom Gundam... I illustrate this by having both sets of arms pulling the chain that restrict the Destiny to freedom. That's it! Simple ya? :D

The models in this Monument series is supposed to be monuments/statues, hence I turned them from model kits into sculptures. hehe... That explains why I have them incomplete, as someone mentioned they are the mechanical version of Venus de Milo. Wow! I'm so flattered. XD

I thought my creation(the Monument series) are quite niche and not mainstream, thus not much attention will be given to it by others... but I do realised that there are people who appreciate what I have done. Thank you so much for your appreciation! I will try to churn out better monuments/sculptures in the next & upcoming in the series.

P.S. Most parts that seems to be metal... are indeed real metal. ^^

The barrel of the cannon.

A piston is added inside the thigh to simulate hydraulic action,
because that part is supposed to be able to open and close.

Below are detailed shots taken to illustrate the details of the model better(before assembling all the parts together)... as I"m afraid it will be difficult to take certain shots once all the parts are fully assembled.
I seems to have forgotten to take detailed shots of the base... zzz Perhaps will do it when I get the model back.

Detail-up the underarm compartments

Modified the abdomen for it to be able to bend.
Added 2 metal pistons to simulate the hydraulic action.

A piston(?) added to the pelvis compartment. lol

Wanted to replace the blade with an actual Surgeon's blade, but not sure where to get that.

So in the end I just chrome it to fake the metal look. lol
The end tip of the sword is real metal though.

Ok, I left the tears on the face in red as a contrast to the overall color scheme, because I want to portray that it is crying. However, I think most people did not notice it as the area is too small, and the head is looking downwards.

By the way, did anyone noticed the Destiny's shield at the base? :)

The 2nd piece in the Monument series is finally here, since the 1st piece Freedom Gundam in 2005!

It is now displaying at the annual event BAKUC(Bandai Action Kit Universal Cup) in Takashimaya's B2 Arena in Singapore, from 6th November till 1st December. There are some other fantastic entries too, pop over for a look if you are in Singapore.
The photoshoot is over and will upload the pictures soon. Stay tune!

Some said I concentrate too much on the artistic & creative value of my Monument series but neglected to showcase my model-modifying skills. Hmm... there is, but not much. Ok then, I'll incorporate and work more on that aspect from the 3rd piece onwards.

Fish & Chips Rice eh? haha.. It's East meets West again, too fusion! The Fillet is too heavy for the rice to hold it up like ramp, plus I'm not experienced in making the mayonnaise wave... the ingredients in the soup have sunk, not visible in the picture... :( Never mind, a better try next time.
That's my wacky dinner for today... it's quite filling though.

Finally it is finished! Very satisfying after completing it. It was supposed to be just a practice and warming up piece for my digital painting skills... yet it took so long. zzz... I can't use the freelances I did in between as an excuse, can I? XD

I was at the range the week before and was too tired to do anything after reaching home each day, so updates are slow again.
From this week, I will be doing detailing and final touches to all the present portions before moving on to finish the other undone portions. There are still a lot to do for this piece, the details alone are killers! Well... hope to finish this piece soon, so that I can finally start on my concept project. Can't wait yo!

Range (July 7th-11th)

I was at the range on the above dates, it was tiring but fun. My friend said it's good to shoot something else once in a while. LOL.... -_- zzz

There was day & night range. The day range went very smoothly, I missed only 1 out of the 15 shots... and I remember shouting out loud 'F*CK' when I missed that shot but I think the gun shots are louder than my swearing, so no one heard it I guess. I was frustrated because it's impossible to miss since the target is big... oh well, maybe I snapped the trigger out of excitment.
The night range didn't went that smoothly as in I was too overconfident and neglected 1 tactical factor, resulted I missed 8 out of the 15 shots. I swear I can shoot better if I didn't neglected that tactical factor... Maybe I should feel contented as many people score 0, yes 0! for the night range as they complained that they can't see the targets clearly. During the shoot, my friends and I were literally shouting to each other as we shoot..."waulau, cannot see the target leh!" LOL... Did anyone of you chat and shoot at the same time? We did! It's funny...

Overall result is 21 out of 30... zzz. Could have been better... oh well. I enjoyed the range totally. Oh ya! In case I forgot to mention, we used rifles for the range.
So that's it for now, till the next time.

The Upside Down Hours

My hours has been rotated 180 degree ever since the UEFA Euro 2008 started on the 7th of this month. Matches start at 12a.m.(Singapore time) everyday and end at 4:45a.m for both matches. To make deprivation of sleep worse, matches from the last round of the Group Stage until the Final are all starting at 2:45a.m. and end at 4:45a.m. So I just have to turn my hours around to fit everything in.
My 12a.m. is now 6p.m. and my 6a.m. is now 12a.m. Ermm... complicated eh? haha... I'm not a soccer freak, has only been interested in just the World Cup and the Euro Cup. Yup! Only country based big scale soccer events.
Anyway, that kind of affected my work progress too, it's been slow... plus there are outings and events to attend now and then. Oh well, I will regain my focus once this Euro 2008 ends. hehe...

Sympathy & Pity

"Having sympathy with" & "Taking pity on"...

Sub-consciously I realized that I am always confused with these 2, having quite a hard time trying to differentiate them. They seem to be just a hair line of difference to me.

When I was very young, my maternal Malaysian relatives often come to visit my family, especially during festive seasons. I would then mingle with them and play together with my cousins.

There was once, my paternal uncle told me to share my toys with my Malaysian cousins and play together with them. He said that they are poorer with not many toys to play with, so I shouldn't be stingy and should share my toys with them. I am going to share my toys with them anyway even without my uncle telling me to, but what he said at that time did made me realized it is quite true to a certain extend. That incident sort of shaped my mentality of how I look at such things. It's amazing that I can still remember this so clearly until now.

From that moment on, I realized that I am quite fortunate to be born in Singapore. Whenever my friends from neighboring countries come to visit, I would definitely like to treat them to meals and what's not, hoping that I can help them save money on such expenses and then they can use that amount of money to buy more stuff for themselves.

Hmm... let me give an example.
I have a friend from Jakarta who came to Singapore for a visit last December. Being a children books' artist, she is naturally fond of children books especially those with nice drawings and illustrations in them. We went to Borders and she was showing me all the books she is interested in. So I asked if she is going to buy all those, she replied that she is going to buy a few from the discount corner and see if she has enough money left on the last day before deciding whether to buy the expensive ones. When I heard that, my heart tells me "ohh, poor thing...".

I understand that it's a bit tough when you are on a tour to a country which currency is bigger than yours, you just can't anyhow spend unless you are damn filthy rich. lol

It happened that the next day I am supposed to meet some friend at a night spot, so I make use of the opportunity to leave house earlier and went to Borders. I take a look at the few books she mentioned and choose to buy the more expensive one with the nicest illustrations. After that I went over to the hotel she is staying and hand her the book, she is so happy and keep saying thank you to me. Well, it makes me happy too if I can make other people happy. XD

Sometime later, it started to get to me sub-consciously that such thoughts and action of mine... am I just being thoughtful or am I having sympathy with or taking pity on other people? I understand that some people might think that I am taking pity on them if I am to help (especially in the case of money)... but I definitely do not have the intention of despising them and try to be a saint with my actions.

I always felt that those unfortunate people from natural disaster are very poor thing. I also realized I tend to sympathize with other people a lot... or is that taking pity on them? (sigh)... Nowadays I am kind of afraid to open myself up in such situations. I will hesitate and think whether will they appreciate my help or think that I’m just trying to show off being a hypocrite.

I do not know why I cannot differentiate the differences and I'm still trying to learn how to. Hope I will get the answer someday. =)

My submission piece for UdonCrew's Street Fighter Tribute. I chanced upon this tribute while surfing DA. At 1st I can't decide on Cammy or Ibuki but later I believe that this outfit looks more interesting on Cammy. Perhaps I will do Ibuki's version sometime later.
This piece is very experimental... and the result seems somehow "empty", it seems to be missing something (no, the legs are deliberate). What do you think?

I am actually more of a King of Fighters player than a Street Fighter's. I used to craze over KOF... knowing all the characters' background, their moves & combos and played with other players competitively in arcades... haha those were the days. As for Street Fighter, I only play for the fun of it... that means I only know their basic combos and have limited knowledge on the characters' background.

Some asked "Why Kimo?" The Japanese word 'Kimo' seems to have a lot of meanings...but I'll let you decide (no, it is not Kimochi lol). Anyway, it's easy to guess just by looking at the outfit.

Interesting Dessert

Saw this interesting dessert(from a restaurant in Tokyo) while browsing dannychoo's blog some time ago, it caught my eyes instantly.
There is a scoop of ice cream on top of 4 slices of garlic bread but I can't really make out what is that at the bottom... judging from the small frying pan, my guess is that it is fried egg. If it is true, then indeed this is a very interesting dessert.
Anyone come across such a dessert in Singapore or in your own country?

Total Chaos: Grim Reaper

Completed the Total Chaos at last! Really took me awhile to get the mappings done. Some of my friends complained that the Alpha Murasame wasn't properly mapped or textured, so I decided to try and give the Total Chaos a more proper mapping and texturing treatment... I hope it doesn't look that bad though... lol.
I don't really like the green of the original Chaos hence I chose this light bluish green as a contrast to the black of the Alpha Murasame.

The pilot is a guy named Remi Fiero, with a pretty big ego and doesn't like losing to females... will get more into him later. Next up will be doing the in-flight shots of the Total Chaos, so till then!

Early this month, Hebe's grandma has passed away due to many years of sickness. This, perhaps is a relief to old granny, her soul is finally freed.
Many fans from all over the world has sent their condolences to Hebe in her company's official forum, I have sent mine too. It is because of old granny's departure that made me write a song for Hebe in memorial of her grandma, as well as my own grandma... she too, isn't around anymore.

The song is simply titled 奶奶(nai nai) which means grandma in mandarin. The lyrics and its' rhythm has been completed. Below are the lyrics showing the 2 verses, the bridge and the chorus. This is not the full-completed arrangement of the song.

The lyrics' content are written based on my own life experiences with my grandma as well as Hebe's with her grandma.
The chorus' lyrics are from Hebe herself, from her message that addressed her fans not to worry about her, as posted in her company's official forum(link). I did minor changes to it so that it flows into the rhythm.
I also have to thank a friend for amending my mandarin to be read more professionally, and for suggesting the lyrics to be in a 2nd person's narration. I do hate writing lyrics as my languages are not strong enough but I have no choice as it is my composing habit.

I think I need to give myself a pat on the back(hahaha) and please go easy on my lyrics as this is the 1st time I am writing a complete mandarin song(writing the lyrics with it's rhythm). I have not been playing music or composing songs since 17 years ago!!! Wow... unbelievable! lolx
I am still considered a newbie in this. I need to go practice on my chords again... but before that, I have to compose the music for this song and complete it.

When I am writing and composing the rhythm for the lyrics, I have in mind that I want it to be of a jazz tune, and I have more or less a rough feel of the music in my mind now. So up next will be getting into composing the music for 奶奶. Hope to finish it soon, so that I can send it to Hebe. hahaha

The month of May and most of June had been very terrible for me. Some bad news have affected me tremendously, so bad that I can't even concentrate on my work and almost losing myself totally. It's pretty weird why I reacted like that as I have never been like that before... it's weird because the bad news were not directly related to me. A friend of mine even said "I have known you for 10 years, this is the 1st time that I see you in such a bad state" LOL

Well, I have faced it bravely and decided to put the incidents in the past behind me(I still need time for that though). It's time to move on and perhaps starts a new chapter in my life.

A small update. This is how it looks like without the remote weapon pods but still some stuffs need to be adjusted for the final look. I replaced the side thrusters at the back with funnel-type thrusters... that's just so Gundam eh?
Now what's left are the 2 remote weapon pods... so till then.

Today's menu:
Rice topped with fried cabbage, Scrambled Eggs, Pan-fried chicken thigh meat with self-formulated sauce and Shichimi Togarashi for the finishing touch.

Another fusion dish of mine. I have been cooking this pretty often lately, just love the taste of it... it's kinda towards the Japanese. It will taste even more like Japanese if I have Japanese rice(Japonica) and Japanese soy sauce(Shoyu)... it will be best if I have Teriyaki sauce too!

Total Chaos: Design Sketches

Yes! The next MA of Revelation:75 from Zaft... Total Chaos! I have always been thinking of creating a MA-only version out of the Chaos Gundam... ermm... not really a new creation, it's more like a mix & match hence the name Total Chaos, the design is really a total chaos I think. lol

When I 1st did concept of it in my mind, I had images of WW2 fighters appearing and I thought "hey! it will be pretty cool if I have this MA in those WW2 propeller fighter style" plus the Alpha Murasame has a modern design of a fighter plane with forward swept wings, the contrast will be great... modern fighter vs WW2 fighter.
For the actual design seen here, I took only the backpack of the Chaos Gundam and gave it a pair of wings from the Force Silhouette. I'm keeping it simple as most WW2 fighters ain't complicated or fanciful in appearance. It should look more like a WW2 fighter after the remote weapon pods detached from the main body... but if this happens, there won't be any weaponry left on the main body. To counter that, I gave it 2 20mm CIWS guns at the nose, making it look even more like a WW2 fighter now. The rest of the details can be found in the picture above.

Now that the design is out, next up will be the 3D creation and hopefully the model kit too. Gotta enjoy the weekend before starting on the 3D, so till then...

A quick 3 pages of comic to summarize the prologue of Revelation: 75... giving you a brief idea of what is going on in the beginning. For specific details of the prologue, I will do that later in a text-passage novel style.
For a side note, I did the model kit of the Black Astray quite long ago and it can be found in this link. As for the mecha in the last panel of the last page... Yes! It's the next MA of the story. I think most of you have already guessed what MA is that, the shape of it is very obvious, ain't it? So up next is to finalize the design of it. Till then...

Alpha Murasame: Red Widow?

Actually this red color scheme was done before the final low-visibility color scheme of the Black Widow. I took the red a bit overboard and ended up having a lot of red instead of just the cockpit and the ALTER's compartment. I scrapped this color scheme because it doesn't match the color placement of a real Black Widow, plus I didn't want people to misunderstand that I am a fanboy of Char or Athrun(no, I don't mean that being a fan of these 2 characters is a sin...).
Although I did not use this color scheme but will still keep it in case I have a need for it later on... perhaps as the color scheme for the ace pilot of a certain Alpha Murasame squadron etc.

Top picture:
I took away half of each leg and it's looking good, in fact I quite like the design on the left. I played a bit on the wing design too... they look ok in the drawings but definitely not ok in the physical model. They look really weird without half of each leg.

Bottom picture:
I retained the full legs in these set of design but took away the feet and replace them with thrusters, figuring that the feet will be of no use since it is a MA-only and not a transformable MS. The left design pretty much made it to the final cut as the Mass Production Model.

An illustration of Lynn Taylor in pilot suit. Hmm... somehow the colors of the suit and her hairstyle really make her looks like a villain more than a protagonist... but well, I think the colors suits well for the name "Black Widow", don't you think?
By the way, it's really tedious coloring using a mouse. Hope some kind soul sponsor me a Wacom tablet soon. hehe

I have given a new look to the pilot helmet of ORB, now it looks more like a real pilot helmet rather than the usual space helmet design. Although the design has changed but it can be still used in space.

Some pictures of the crafts in training flight routine. The last picture is a simulation of the Bawoos in flight from Meaningless War 0091. My favourite is the 1st picture... but seems like I have seen something similar before but can't remember where.
